Property Partners
To provide its “public use” Internet access services, Nex will partner with select property owners and managers including: (a) Hotels (b) Convention Centre Facilities (c) Multi-unit Commercial and Residential Buildings (d) Public “Hot-spot” Locations (e) Schools
In each “public use” market, the market dynamics are being driven by the convergence of technology developments and evolving user needs.
Property Partner Benefits The property partner benefits include: Provide guests/tenants a value-added service. Create a value-added revenue stream, with no up-front investment. Meet or beat the competition. Out-source to obtain Nex’s specialist skills on a “turn-key”, “build-own-operate” basis. These technically demanding skills are properly outside a property partner’s staffing and core business competencies. Get the job done now without over-burdening existing staff.
Hotels Today, business travel is a key part of the hotel business: • In 2002, business and conference/meeting travellers accounted for about 57% of all travellers (29.5% and 27.0% respectively), with 58% of business travellers spend two or more nights. • Today, it is estimated that only about 50% of US hotel rooms have Internet access, up from 15 % in 1999, with a significant portion of these only offering much slower and less practical “dial- up” access. • In the US, it is estimated that two-thirds of the 36 million business travellers (i.e. 27 million regular hotel guests) travel with their laptops. • Access to the Internet is now a requirement for doing business. In a recent survey, two thirds of respondents agreed that “it was very important to stay connected while on the road”, with 80% expressing a preference for using a computer in their rooms rather than in hotel business centres. • A growing number of business travellers are now booking their hotels based on the in-room availability of high-speed Internet access.
Nex’s Internet access solutions let hotel guests catch up on office e- mail, get the updated stats for tomorrow's sales meeting or book the next flight home, all at Ethernet speed. They can work in their rooms and, if Wi-Fi is enabled in the customized network installed, virtually anywhere in the hotel covered by wireless. Users avoid the fumbling, hassles and inconvenience of dial-up access, which requires the use of modem dial codes and hotel phone systems. The user can send large files, notably presentations, send and receive emails, surf the web, receive video streaming media or conduct video conferencing.
Convention Centre Facilities Nex’s Wi-Fi enabled high-speed Internet access network solutions are ideally suited to convention centres and hotel conference and meeting rooms. In such applications, Wi-Fi is considerably more convenient and cost effective than a wired network connecting the booths and presentation tables in the venue, whose layout will change from event to event.
The advantages of Nex’s Wi-Fi enabled networks include: • Providing high-speed Internet access for conference organizers, exhibitors and attendees to all exhibition booths and other facilities • Easy accommodation of last minute booth reassignments • Significant time, cost and convenience savings, as compared to a wired network • Seamless wireless roaming throughout the facility • Complete flexibility in locating booths, tables, displays and kiosks with full Internet access • True broadband access, which accommodates streaming video and video conferencing • Easy servicing of media Internet access needs in the pressroom
Multi-unit Commercial and Residential Buildings For a variety of reasons, many buildings are not suited to “wired” high speed Internet access as provided by digital subscriber line (“DSL”) or cable broadband access. And much slower “dial-up” connections are less than ideal today and will be even moreso in future. The Company offers its services to multi-unit buildings in geographic areas where it has established accounts.
For building owners and property managers, and their business and residential tenants, Nex can provide integrated high-speed Internet access solutions, and will work with building owners and managers to co-market the services to building tenants.
Public “Hot-spot” Locations The Company's Wi-Fi enabled Internet access network services are ideally suited to serving public access venues such as airports, hotels, convention centres, government buildings or any other public access area. Nex offers its hot-spot services in geographic areas where it has established accounts.
Schools The Company’s design, build, own and operate, low-cost, pay-as- you-go, business model is well suited to the funding pressures facing educational institutions today.
Providing classrooms with “wired” network access is very costly. “Wired” network installations require a significant investment in terms of time and resources. Trenching and stringing wires within buildings is very expensive. By using a Wi-Fi enabled network, even remote classrooms can have the same access to the school's network, email, and the web, as if they were in the main building. Simple set-up, easy management, and high-speed performance combine to make the ongoing use of Nex’s Wi-Fi enabled networks economical and trouble free. Expanding or reconfiguring is easy. If certain service locations are no longer needed, their access points can simply be re-deployed elsewhere.
Nex’s Wi-Fi enabled networks can give students and teachers access to their network resources (printers, file servers, email, and the web) from anywhere on campus and holds the promise of fundamentally changing the way students and faculty work together, teach and learn.
